School & Student Goals

The Woodbury Town School Board, with the collaboration of the administration, teachers, the board and the town, adopted a list of school ends in 2010. These ends essentially function as a directive overview for educating Woodbury’s elementary students.

The current board, after a considerable amount of dialogue, determined the school ends require re-examination. Do these make sense for the current school? Are the ends adhered  to? If not why, why not, and should the ends be rewritten, or should practices within the school alter? 

As the board’s most challenging work is presently Act 46, ends work has not been undertaken. The process of rewriting these ends, while needed, poses a significant time commitment and a need to solicit thoughtful feedback. To adequately accomplishment this endeavor, the board would need to prioritize this work; at this time, the board’s energies are engaged in the process of understanding Act 46. The work of rewriting the ends is yet to come.

Global End
Woodbury Elementary School  exists to empower students with the knowledge and skills necessary to achieve their full potential and become successful, responsible, and contributing members of society.

Problem Solving & Critical Thinking
  • Students will use problem solving and critical thinking skills to improve their performance throughout their middle and secondary education experiences.
  • Students will analyze and interpret information to determine independent conclusions.
  • Students will transfer and generalize problem solving and critical thinking strategies across content areas.
  • Students will access multiple resources to independently acquire new knowledge

Academic Achievement
Students are expected to meet or exceed state and/or local standards in: the arts, language arts, history and social studies, science, mathematics, non-native language, physical education, health, and information technology.

Personal Growth & Life Skills
  • Students will understand the importance of physical, mental, and emotional health.
  • Students will identify and develop personal goals and implement plans to achieve them.
  • Students will accept challenges and risk failure.
  • Students will make informed decisions and be accountable for outcomes.
  • Students will understand fiscal responsibility.
  • Students will use communication skills to effectively present ideas to others.
  • Students will learn to resolve conflict.

Social Responsibility & Citizenship
  • Students will understand how government works in a democracy.
  • Students will be knowledgeable about the history of their community and its present-day characteristics.
  • Students will understand their place in the global community.
  • Students will understand their personal responsibilities in relation to the environment.
  • Students will understand community service as an obligation, an opportunity, and a critical piece of education.
  • Students will practice care and concern for others.
